A summer wedding at the pleasingly aesthetic Villa del Sol d’Oro in Sierra Madre, CA. The Villa del Sol d’Oro is an exact replica of the Villa Collazzi located on the outskirts of Florence, Italy. The name means “House of the Golden Sun,” which is an appropriate name for this site. This is a great venue for weddings and offers a wide selection of locations for me to work with couples.
Carrie and Sean had decided to not see each other prior to the ceremony, so in their respective rooms at the Villa, I began our photography with candid ready shots of each one doing their last-minute readying. Although, there was one very noticeable difference in the rooms. In Carrie’s room, her mother, her maid of honor, as well as all of her bridesmaids were busy helping the bride get ready, while in with the guys’ room, it was Sean, the groom, who was ready first and busily straightening ties and giving instruction for the proper folds of their pocket-squares.
A quick “controlled candid” taken from the top of the staircase as the bride walks through the foyer with its marbled black and white floors.
Then we’re off to begin the photography of the bride.
My style as a professional wedding photographer includes as little or as much posed photography as you like. And although I feel it is an essential element of any wedding photography coverage, posed photography is only a part of the day’s photography coverage.
With the exception of my B&W infrared, I photograph everything in color, then selective convert some images to B&W.
I finished up with the bride, the bride with her bridesmaids and with her immediate family, then moved onto the individual work with the groom, the groom with his groomsmen and the groom with his immediate family.
Then it’s on to the wedding ceremony on this gorgeous summer day and the Villa del Sol d’Oro is looking very exquisite and welcoming to the bride and groom…

A few highlights from their wedding reception, which had the seating for dinner on the outdoor courtyard terrace overlooking the reflecting pool, while the wedding cake and dancing were in separate rooms inside the Villa. The food and the service at the Villa del Sol d’Oro are among the best you will find for venues in the Southern California area.
The couple and I slip out to do a little work in the golden hour.

I sneaked the bride and groom outside for a few minutes alone for one of my signature closing photographs…
And then arm-in-arm and bearing huge smiles, they left under an arch of lit sparklers, and they were off into the starry night…
